Services / Process

Working closely with our clients, we are able to custom design each and every element in the landscape to suit the individual nature and context of the site. Some of the typical elements we design include;
Planting layouts
Water features
Pools
Retaining walls
Timber decks
Pergolas
Paving
Driveways
Artistic garden features
Fences
Garden lighting
The list goes on…basically; we design everything except the house!

Fees

As with all design, the work required for each project varies greatly. A Fee Proposal will be issued for the project once sufficient information is made available. For a basic project, a quick conversation about the site and the desired outcome will be enough to base a Fee Proposal on. Larger or more complex projects will require architectural or survey plans and possibly a site visit before a fee proposal can be issued.

Please contact Jamie for further information on your projects’ fees.

Consultation

The consultation is obviously the first and one of the most important steps in the process of creating your desired outdoor space. During the consultation, we will discuss the opportunities and constraints of the site and what you want to transform it into. The meeting will generally last for around an hour, in which time we will form a good understanding of you, your style, your site and exactly what you want.

Design Brief

Once the consultation is complete, a Design Brief will be drafted for all parties to agree on. The Design Brief acts as a basic summary of the projects desired outcomes. It will list what you, the client, want to get from the landscape, the sites’ unique opportunities and constraints and time, budget and council constraints.

Concept Plans

Once all parties are happy with the Design Brief, the concept plans will be designed. As each project differs from the next, the extent of the concept plans does also. Some clients have a very developed idea of their ideal landscape and don’t require a concept plan while others have no ideas at all and require several different concepts to choose from. The extent or necessity of a concept plan will be discussed during the Consultation.

DIY plans for the green-thumb

For those clients who simply need a little direction and professional advise on the development of their landscape, a simple ‘DIY’ plan can be produced. This is often a cost-effective way of creating a unique outdoor space if you enjoy a little hard work. ‘DIY plans’ will give details on the landscape layout, a full plant schedule and a full materials schedule.

Development Application Plans

A DA plan is developed from the chosen concept plan and conforms to all local council requirements. This is often the final step in smaller scale residential projects as all our residential DA plans can, and currently are, quoted by landscape contractors.

Detailed Tender and Construction Plans

For large or complex projects, we produce detailed construction plans. These plans include details on all landscape elements, materials and works. Along with the plans a full specification can be issued for the project. Once the plans and specification are complete, tenders are called from suitable contractors.

Tender Assessment, Construction Management or Landscape Construction

Jamie King Landscape Architect can assess and give feedback and recommendations on tenders and oversee the construction at critical stages to assure the best possible outcome.

Alternatively, Jamie King Landscape Architect can act at the clients representative and build the designed works using one of several qualified and experienced landscape contractors.
